Engine smokes on startup

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1974; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 176,xxx;

I bought this, my first (and only) 911, several years ago; the engine had been rebuilt at approximately 150k. The car runs great and starts up immediately but does smoke upon startup. I should mention that this is not a daily driver - I may use it at most a few times a week from May through October (I live in a northern climate), with most drives of 50 miles or less. The smoking only lasts for a minute or so, and the engine does not measurably burn oil. I've been told that this MAY be normal for these cars (something about the sump arrangement?). As it doesn't seemingly affect the car's performance, I haven't been too inclined to identify it as a problem worthy of investigation. Still, I wish I had an answer to those who question the cloud of smoke that accompanies startup. Thanks for your insight.
