Excessive play in the steering column

Interior

Vehicle Information: Model: 911SC; Year: 1980; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 90,000;

Depending on how you want to describe it, my car has excessive play (side to side, up and down) in the steering column. The "looseness" or "slop" came on all of a sudden. Question: Is there a replaceable bushing, or collar, "inside" the car towards the bottom (in the area of the turn signal/cruise switches) of the column that could have failed? Do you have any special instructions on the disassembly of the column to make the repair? Please note: no issue with the steering or driveability. My first submission ever, I look forward to your reply.
