Exterior Mirror

Vehicle Information: Model: 911T; Year: 1971; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.2 T; Total Mileage: 68,000;

I recently acquired low milage 1971 T targa. It has a new, original Durrant exterior (driver side only) mirror (4 1/2" version). I would like to keep the car original, but I have found that this mirror is useless as airbrakes on a turtle! It cannot be adusted far enough inwards to enable one to see anything when the seat is positioned to accomodate a 6'4" driver. I have examined the mirror and the door area and neither have any apparent damage that would account for the inability to adequately adjust for a tall driver. After a couple of near miss lane changes I believe it is time to go to a later model mirror (unless you can suggest a "fix" for the stock mirror). My question is: can the rectangular mirrors (non-power) from either a 72 or 73 or 74 - 76 model 911 be retrofitted to a 71 (with or without modifying the existing mounting point)? If it is possible to use one of these mirrors can a right side mirror be added? Notwithstanding that it was not a factory option, my '72 914-6 had the mounting points for a right side mirror, which I added...were the early 911 right side doors similarly configured? Thanks for your help
