Fault code 1123

  • 1999
  • Boxster
Mileage:
31 500
Engine
Olympia,
Washington

Every 2-300 miles the Boxster's check engine light illuminates. I erase the fault and it returns at the usual interval. The reader shows the fault as P1123. That is the only fault indicated.

The code definition says it's a bad oxygen sensor. An on-line search is ripe with expensive speculation on the true meaning of 1123. No seems to have pinpointed the culprit. Speculation varies from an injector problem, air flow sensor, catalytic converter, et al. The car seems to run fine, altho there is occasionally an odor of raw fuel after a cold start. Has anyone nailed down the cause for this fault code?
