Fluid leak

Model: 911 Carr Cab, Year:1984, Mileage:43,000, Type of use:Street use only
4 years ago a Porsche repair guy said my trany was leaking fluid and all that needed to be done was take a plate off the housing and replace a "paper gasket". This without removal of the trany. I never followed through with the repair. This year a different shop said the trany/engine had to come out to replace the gasket between the trany and engine. A $2,600 repair. Yes it still leaks fluid, car runs great with a very tight cluch. I want it fixed. Any thoughts as to what the issue is?
