Front Bumper Removal/Radiator Replacement

Vehicle Information: Year: 2003; Engine (Size, Modifications): X50, Performance Chip, Evolution Intake; Total Mileage: 42000;

I recently took my car in for service and they advised me that they thought my radiator was/is leaking on one side. They stated this is common for the Turbo given little protects the radiators and even a small jolt from bumping a curb or a steep incline can crack the radiator. First, is this common and if so why didn't Porsche retrofit anything to avoid this on such an expensive car? Second, after looking at it, it really doesn't look like it should be much trouble to switch it out with another or repair it if I can get the front bumper off; how do I remove the bumper? Third, if I do replace it, is it difficult and is there a better, i.e. more durable, aftermarket replacement, and perhaps a plate that can be retrofit to protect the radiator?
