Suspension

I have a click in the front of my 2002 Boxster when going across rail road tracks. It sounds like a failing strut. The only noise I can get from the front suspension on a drive on hoist is around the steering rack. I get this with short rapid movements of the steering wheel. Could this be the inner tie rod end(s)? I can't feel anything from any ball joint or bushing. If it is the ite rod end, is there a stronger replacement?
