Fuel Level Sensor

Fuel System

Vehicle Information: Year: 2001; Engine (Size, Modifications): 3.6; Total Mileage: 35,000;

2001, 911 Turbo. I had the fuel level sensor replaced and now the gas guage does not work unless the gas tank gets below 1/2 full. The work was done by a good non dealer shop. I called the dealer and was told that when the sensor is replaced all the gas must be drained from the gas tank and then a specific amount of gas is added to the gas tank and then the factors scanner will recalibrate the quage. I asked if the tank could be filled and then have it recalibrated to full and I was told no. Thus , I have been told by the dealer it will be a 3 hours hob to train the gas and do the entire proceedure. Does this seem right to you. You would think they could reset the guage in 5 minutes. Second the local shop that takes care of my car also takes care of may Porshce race cars. It their software available for them to reset the senor themselves. It is hard for me to believe that Porsche could make such a simple job of replacing a faulty fuel sensor into such a complicated job. What it the correct proceedure.
