Fuel in oil

Engine

Model: 912, Year:1968, Mileage:68,000, Type of use:Street use only
My '68 912 is in fact in a barn in Maine, and only driven on sunny Sundays (~68K). I started it up earlier this summer and it would not idle well. I cleaned the carbs and tried again the other day, with the same result; it revved fine but would not idle. I then noticed that there was a lot of oil and possibly gas coming out the exhaust. When I pulled the dipstick the oil looked and smelled odd.I just drained the oil and cleaned the filters. The result was ~8 qts of liquid, which smelled and felt a lot like gas. There were no obvious metal chips (magnet was clean). Incidentally the gas mileage has been poor for the last year. I have been starting it about every month or so in the winter and it had been running all right.Whats my next step, besides running to the bank? I have not checked the compression or the valves.ThanksNorman Thomasnthomas@devilsrest.us
