Gasoline filler latch

Vehicle Information: Year: 1976; Body Type: Coupe;

My gasoline filler latch went south the other day. The clamp slipped off the cable when I went to fill up and the filler door stayed open on the ride home.. No big deal except that to thread the cable back through the latch I had to remove the latch so as to line everything up.I was in fine shape until the spring that applies pressure to the latch fell forward. For the life of me I can't figure out the correct position of the spring so that it re-applies pressure to the latch. I've tried several different positions in relation to the cotter pin and latch but so far no luck and of course without the spring pressure the door won't remain closed. Can't find a diagram anywhere with an illustration of how it goes back together. thanks Dennis
