Having problems with my AC. Works great for a little while then slowly starts warming up closer to ambient.

My AC has been lsess than optimal for quite a while. The system has been recharged but it still does not work reliably.  As an example, with an ambient temp of ~85 degrees, turning the air on will bring temp from the vent down to about 40 degrees.  Very nice.  After a while of driving in sunlight the vent air  temp starts creeping up sometimes as high as 70 degrees.  If you park the car for a while then try the AC again the process repeaats.  It can't seem to hold that low temp very long.  Thoughts?
