Headlight problem.

My 2003 996 Targa recently failed inspection because the driver's side headlight was not working on high beam.  I checked all the headlight related fuses and they were all good. Next I took out the bulb to replace it, but found it was still working (replaced it anyway).  I have read that the light switch can fail, so I ordered a new switch and replaced it, however, the same man beam still did not work.  I finally broke down and took it to a Porsche dealer, who told me that the headlight unit was faulty and needed to be replaced for $4125!!!  My question is this:  Does anyone know if the Xenon units can be repaired in any way, or is there any way to avoid having to pay $4125, just to get a left hand main beam that I rarely use anyway?  I can't seem to find any aftermarked LED headlights for my model year, but would prefer to replace both units with simpler headlight that would presumably be cheaper.  I would appreciate any ideas and suggestions before I have to spend so much money.
