Hot Shift Boot

Model: 944, Year:1986, Mileage:108000, Type of use:Street use only
I have a 1986 944 with an Automatic transmission. When I drive the car, the shift boot, the area under the radio and all surrounding trim pieces back tot he armrest become extremely hot. I've checked under the car and all of the heat shields appear to be in place. I've even added extra protection around the catalytic converter. I've removed the shift boot and driven the car and it appears hot air is blowing into the car around the shifter assembly when moving. Was there any other additional protection from the heat in this area or was this a common problem? Any thoughts on what could be causing the issue? Thanks so much for your help.
