How do I shorten alignment spikes on 993 Convertible top?

I recently purchased a 993 vert and the spikes that align the front of the convertible top to the windshield are starting to punch holes in the top when it is lowered.  I assume that the prior owner or shop that installed the top did not use the proper length on the spikes.  Is there a way to shorten or adjust the spikes so they do not continue to pressure the top while it is down?  It won't be long until there are holes due to the issue.  Thank you very much!
