How to identify a 996 GT3

Model: 996, Year:1999, Mileage:16000, Type of use:Street use only
I have been offered a 1999 996 "GT3S" - that's what it says on the deck lid! 2 owner car w/ only 16K miles - allegedly! Personally, I think something is just not right! The doesn't look like a "real" GT3, and it doesn't drive like one! It has a speedo that says GT3, and door sills that say GT3 but all that could have been added to a standard Carrera. No roll cage or any real racing attributes. The deck lid has been cut out unprofessionally insiide to make space for a cup air filter, and, while driving the car, I noticed the front tires making contact to something when turning all the way left/right. I have researched the option codes to find hints but unsuccesfully. Any advice I would appreciate. Thanks! in advance for answering my question.
