How to remove pop-off valve

I need to remove the 'toilet seat' air-box pop-off valve (it is broken in the area of the hinge-pin) so that I can install a new one. It was installed with an epoxy that is yellowish-tan in color. What can be safely used to soften this epoxy enough so that the fractured valve assembly can be removed prior to installing a new one? Solvent? Heat gun? "Freeze spray"? Obviously, I am looking for some method that won't damage the air-box! I am hoping to do this without having to remove the air box from the car. Ideas and suggestions welcome! Thanks in advance!
