Ignition Problems???

Vehicle Information: Model: 911s; Year: 1977; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 150k;

I have a 1977 2.7L 911S with a Pertronix point system installed. I was having issues where the car would fire up with no problem when it was cold/cool and operate great. Once it reached operating temp and was shut down, it would not re-fire until it had cooled off again. While trying to trace the problem I discovered the insulation on the wires for the points had cracking in it, so I replaced the unit with a new Pertronix points system. The car fired right up but ran a little rough like the electronic timing was off a touch. I warmed the car up in preparation of setting the timing as you have described so many times before. After shutting the car down to hook up the timing light it again would not re-fire. I can smell fuel at the tail pipe but can not get a spark. Do you have any suggestions as to what the gremlin might be?
