Installing H&R lowering springs

Suspension and Steering

Vehicle Information: Year: 1990; Body Type: Convertible; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.6 ; Total Mileage: 71,000;

I am about to install H&R stage 2 lowering springs on my car. I have been told that once the old springs are removed and the new springs are installed, that the springs must be pretensioned. Is that true for lowering springs. I can understand that for the stock springs as they are longer than the strut. If there is a pretension setting for lowering springs, what is it?
