Intermittent fuel pump failure

Fuel System

Vehicle Information: Year: 1988; Engine (Size, Modifications): 3.3 turbo; Total Mileage: 40,000;

On four recent occassions on startup, I could hear rear fuel pump singing. Cor would start but run very rough and no power as it bucked etc. As if magic. a short while later and much stress, the car started as if nothing heppened and ran fine for hours. Although it may be unrelated, I noticed when the key was turned on and before start, the alt light did not illuminate during this condition but during normal ops it did. Checked and replaced fuses and relays. Front pump has been in there since new. Front pump armature? Wiring (ground)?
