K27S install issues

Stephen- just picked up an '86 930 with an aftermarket intercooler, SC cams and (for some reason) the stock exhaust & turbo. Question 1: Would like to install a K27S turbo & aftermarket exhaust system. I've heard that there is some modification required to the sheet metal of the engine compartment as well as some welding of mounting brackets to get a K27 to fit. Can you describe what's involved in such an install? I'd like to do this myself- and I consider myself pretty handy..but I've never welded anything so I don't want to get in over my head. Question 2: Local Porsche dealer mechanic dealer says fuel mngmnt system (such as Andial) is mandatory as car runs too lean on boost w/these upgrades- yet aftermarket turbo/exhaust supplier says this isn't always necessary- and can vary from car to car, depending how AFR/CO levels look....was wondering what your take is as I really don't want to ruin exhaust valves, etc. Thanks!
