Mechanical chain tensioners
Vehicle Information: Model: 911T; Year: 1970; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.2; Total Mileage: unknown;
I was searching through the database and came across this portion of an earlier post from Ed, "I use a tensioner called a Hoeptner, that is no longer made, which I considered the best. They were a totally mechanical, self adjusting, almost bullet proof tensioner. The popularity of the carrera type took over. DO NOT use the mechancial non-self adjusting type. They simply do not have any means of compensating for chain expansion/contraction."Is there another company out there that makes such a tensioner? If so, where can I find it? I don't have as much history as I would like to have for my 70 T, so I was thinking of upgrading the tensioners to help prevent the unthinkable. I'm in the same boat as Ed. As much as I like the idea of the hydralic tensioners, I dislike the way they look on the engine (not stock).Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.Sincerely,BE
