Mobil 1 viscosity update

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model (914/4, 914/6): 914/4; Year: 1971; Engine (type, size, modifications): 1.7 4 cyl; Total Mileage: 160,000;

Now that Mobil 1 in 0W-40 weight is becoming available, would it be a better grade to use in my '71 1.7? Is 0W-40 a wider range than 20W-50 and a better lubricant upon start-up? I use the car on the street as well as Autocross, Time-Trial, and Drivers Ed. Oil temp. is running from 180 deg. to 230 deg. now. Also, what is the quickest, easiest way to avoid oil pick-up starvation on tight turns? Top the oil level to a little higher on the dip stick? Deeper sump?
