This is a follow-up to the response on the hard top hoist company. I use a hoist similar to one shown in the MidAmerica Motors catalogue, page 20 in their last (undated) catalogue, part nos 101-011 and 012, except that mine has a steel hoist cable instead of a rope. I think I got it from Performance Products, but don't have their current catalogue.Anyway, I have had excellent results with this hoist. The key is positioning the car properly in the garage under the hoist (and marking the wheel positions, once this is done, so that you can do it again). One concern I had was that the hoist is not recommended for storing the top in the raised position, according to the catalogue. I thought that this might cause the top to "bow" and not fit tightly, because it was not supported in the same way that it is when installed. However, the customer rep at Mid America told me that this caution is only because the hoist winch lacks a positive locking mechanism that would ensure that the top did not come down on its own.My hoist winch requires a positive force on it to move the handle, and the hard top remains parked at the top of my garage for 9 months of the year, so far without incident.
