New Tires for a 2001 TT

Vehicle Information: Year: 2001; Engine (Size, Modifications): TT; Total Mileage: 19,500;
I can only get 8,000 miles out of a set of rear tires. What are the pros and cons of putting a set of 225/40-18 and 265/35-18, all season tires on a TT that will last longer. I am more likely to drive in the snow than go 150 mph. Will I have to buy new rims or will the 265's fit 11" rims?
