oil consumption

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 Carrera; Year: 1988; Body Type: Targa; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 50,000;

Have had this vehicle for 1000 miles and getting about 300 miles per quart of 20w50. No oil leaks visible, no smoke when driving (except usual start-up puff) and with such low mileage it is hard to understand why. Getting it checked out by a mechanic but suspect valve guides, rings or maybe valve stem seals. Any other suggestions to diagnose this? For example any possibilities of crankcase ventillation system? Thanks.
