Oil Overfill

Engine

Vehicle Information: Model : 997 Cabriolet; Year: 2005; Mileage: 2800;

I had my dealer perform a 2000 mile oil change. Ever since (the last 800 miles), the oil level reads above the maximum mark. I have checked it on flat surfaces, at all times during the day. When I called my dealer about it, I was told not to worry because they wouldn't overfill it by that much. Of course, without a dipstick, I can't tell if its a problem with the gauge, or an actual overfill. Is it possible that in performing an oil change, a dealer could overfill the oil to a dangerous level?
