Oil tank Leak Source

Model: 911, Year:1978, Mileage:135K, Type of use:Track use only
I've had a slow leak from the oil tank for 4+ years. Wouldn't normally care, but, it's a track car and because I haven't been able to identify the source from looking at the tank from under the car and because I'm concerned about potential catostrophic failure, and subsequent damage to my engine, as well as other people on track with me at the time, I decided to finally pull the tank.Well, nothing obvious to be seen. I've checked the seam all the way around and there's no leak there. With all the air swirling around in the engine bay and wheel wells at track speeds and with the insidious nature of motor oil, it's spread around pretty well, further making identification of the source point difficult.I haven't removed the gasket yet, in case you wanted me to send pictures. There seems to be a possible trickle trail from under the gasket, located just below the filter spin-on axis. I have the impression that the gasket is nothing more than a seat between tank and car body. Is that right? Any recos for where to look for this leak? Thanks for any guidance you can offer.
