over fill engine oil

Engine

Vehicle Information: Year: 1981; Body Type: Coupe;

I almost bought a 3.0 car however just before signing the check, took the car for a drive and by third gear, plums of white smoke simply covered the street behind me. The car did not go a mile before shutting it down. Upon my return I had asked the owner how he had checked his oil level and as you are suspecting the motor was off and cold. Now, my question is, how many litres of oil would you have to add in the tank in order for it to register on the dip stick? The seller claims he only added one. What kind of damage could this have done to the motor if any?Thank you,Mike
