Parking Brake

Vehicle Information: Year: 2001; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 48000; Transmission: Manual;

I've got a question I'm a bit embarassed to ask as I should know the answer; but here goes anyway. I was looking through some tech data on my Boxster and realized I never contemplated how parking brakes work on rear disks. Am I correct in my interpretation that there is actually a set of "brake shoes" inside the hub of the rear rotor? It seems to be what the technical info suggests. Thanks!
