passenger compartment temperature sensor

Leading from the passenger compartment temperature sensor grille on the dashbord is a small hose that is connected to a small motorized fan that I noticed continuously rotating with or without the heat, a/c or outside air blowers working. Does it have a separate contriol or is it always suposed to run. Nonetheless the noise is annoying and I would like to replace it. An earlier thread indicated that there was no such part in the 86 911. It's behind the HVAC controls the fan housing is a 1/2 inch in diameter open on one side to circulate air the whole part is about 2 inches long including the motor....
