power loss & pinging, how can I get to ROW spec


Vehicle Information: Model: 911sc; Year: 1979; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 112,000;

my 79 911sc began having a slight pinging at 4200-4500 rpm in 2nd and 3rd gears. I put in 100 octane aviation gas (low lead) and a cat bypass but the problem has not resolved. my mechanic thought it was the octane at first, then the cat causing this. he advanced the timing a hair which helped slightly. also the cat bypass helped slightly. the power feels significantly down of late and possibly worsening. this is a ROW 911 and I understand they should make 204hp if you can put 97 octane+ in the tank and tune for it. Q1: any idea what to look for to chase down the pinging? should I worry about it? Could the power loss be related? Q2: if I run a mix of 2 parts 100 octane and 1 part 91 octane to acheive 97 octane, what needs to be done to get the power to 204hp, is it a simple timing adjustment? The rest of the car is perfect. Do I need a rebuild?
