rear main seal leak

Engine

Model: 911SC, Year:1978, Mileage:230k, Type of use:Street use only
My engine is being rebuilt by a reputable mechanic and he has come across a problem. The case was split and all internals were replaced including bearings, tensioners and studs. Once the engine is reinstalled and started up the rear main seal begins to drip oil steadily. The mechanic has inspected everything including the crank, seal bore and even replaced the internal oil pump. The thermostat opens and all the cooler lines warm up after starting. It was started for the third(!) time yesterday and immediately began to leak again. All the parts, seals, etc. were OEM. He's taking the engine apart again today and is growing increasingly frustrated. He has checked with his contacts around the country to no avail.
