Rear shock absorbers

Suspension

Vehicle Information: Model: 356B ; Year: 1962; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 1600 normal; Total Mileage: 85,000;

Our 356 has developed a substantial "clunk" in the right rear when going over an even small pot-hole. I have removed both rear shocks (black in color with no external oil leaks.) Extending the shocks there is the normal resistance and in compressing them, absolutely none. I was planning on ordering new Konis, to match the front, but before doing so the thought occured to me that perhaps a broken torsion bar may be the cause. Any ideas?
