REAR SQUEAL NOISE

Brakes

Vehicle Information: Model: Carrera; Year: 1985; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2 Stock; Total Mileage: 127K;

Twice in succession I notice a loud squeal noise (I thought at first it was a little girl on the sidewalk screaming) coming from the rear of the car about 100 yards of driving from my garage when the car is cold. I applied my brakes and it doesnt seem to change the noise. It lasts for about 50 yards. From then on everything is fine. Both belts were replaced about 5,000 miles ago, and there is !/2" to 9/16" play at most (I measured with a ruler). I shook the rear tires and theres no play. Ive also picked up some clutch chatter recently when the car is cold. What is my next best action? What is the likely list of possibilities?
