Replace Bosch coil?

Vehicle Information: Model: 911T Sportomatic; Year: 1973; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 2.4 w/ new Mahle P&C to 2.7. C/ratio unknown, but compression is 182.; Total Mileage: unknown;

We resurrected a CIS '73 Sporto w/ recent and nice engine rebuild to 2.7 w/ Mahle P&C and compression 182 straight across. I think all else is stock. It feels strong and makes good power smoothly. Mileage unknown. We broke the bakelite on a coil and replaced it with a used Bosch unit from the pile out back. It runs, but doesn't seem as smooth (slightly, and easiest to hear at idle). How do I test it? Get a new coil and see if it improves anything? AX with this car is going to be fun!Thanks again.
