Replacing the two Gas hood struts

Body and Interior

Vehicle Information: Model: 911; Year: 1989; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 108000 km;

The gas struts on my 89' 911 do not hold up the engine cover and tail when they are cold. When the engine compartment warms up they work fine. My plan is to replace them. Is it normal to have two shocks on the left side at the rear(not one for each side)? Any tips for replacing these struts besides having arms that are 4 feet long?Thanks for your help!Dean
