Ride Height Modification

Suspension

Vehicle Information: Model: 911SC Targa; Year: 1978; Body Type: Targa; Total Mileage: 104,000;

I have a 1978 911SC Targa that has body modifications. I have 993 Carrera Cup wheels on it, 17x7.5 in front and 17x9 in the rear. With the body modifications there is a four inch gap between the top of the tires and the apex of the fender curve. I was told by the body shop that the ride height would have to be lowered to achieve the look Im going for. I have been researching adjustable spring plates and also converting to a coilover suspension. Can you give me any advice on how to approach this issue in the most effective manner, without breaking the bank :)? My knowledge of the 911SC suspension, at this point, on a scale of 1 to 10 is .5 (yes that is a point before the 5).Thanks for any help you can give.
