shifting difficulties-1st to 2nd

Transmission and Clutch

Vehicle Information: Model: 911sc; Year: 1984; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.0L; Total Mileage: 81,500;

some history: before i bought the car, the previous owner had 2nd gear syncro replaced, and upon inspection, 3rd gear was found to be bad and replaced. this at 78,000 miles. to date, the exchange between 1st and second is slow and steady, but stiff and best attempted at rpm's above 4k. will this new syncro ever give in and snik like 2nd to 3rd? also, i have read about, and experienced the balkiness described in trying to 'beat the dogs' and get the trans back into 1st while coming to a stop. and then sometimes, it's like velvet. is this 'car speed' related? would switching to the swepco fluid help the aforementioned problems? lastly, i really like the idea of a short shifter. the reach for first is to my knee. any opinions on them, maybe what should be considered in addition to this mod?all this notwithstanding, the car is a trip. i have enjoyed my 'evolution and adaptation' to it's quirky shifting habits.thanks
