Snapped 1991 964 Cabriolet Frame

Vehicle Information: Model: 911/964; Year: 1991; Body Type: Convertible; Total Mileage: 49272;

As I was closing the convertible top this evening I noticed that the electric motors did not engage the locking mechanism on top of the windshield. I then reversed the switch and the top began to open. The top opened about one foot when I heard a loud cracking sound. I stopped opened the top and found that the thick aluminum brace on the drivers side of the car had snapped. I managed to get the top aligned and the locks finally engaged. I did not notice that the top did anything differently than usual, that being it sounded normal and it appeared to be working in a normal fashion. Have you got any ideas of what could have caused this? Do you have any thoughts on where I could find a replacement for the aluminum strut. The piece that I am speaking of is the main aluminum support that also holds the rubber molding just over the drivers left shoulder.I will be taking it into my local Porsche shop but I would like to get another opinion to compare what I will hear from my mechanic.I moved the top back and forth a couple of times, in small movements and I could not detect an obvious problem with the motors. Appreciate any thoughts that you might have.
