Solenoid noise from behind hvac controls on 993

Heating and Ventilation

Vehicle Information: Year: 1996; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 57,800;

After shutting off the engine while operating the a/c, I noticed what sounded like the hum of a solenoid coming from behind the hvac controls. After waiting a few minutes, I left the car with the noise still present. The noise was gone when I checked back after a couple of hours.Switching the ignition on and back off, or starting and shutting off the engine, both with the a/c off, the sound only lasts 6-7 seconds before clicking off. However, if I start the engine and engage the a/c compressor, the sound will persist for an unknown period after shutting off the engine and ignition.Can you identify the source of the noise?Is this normal?The current draw is hopefully low, but I'm concerned about draining the battery since I don't know how long the condition persists. Overall, the a/c seems to function normally, although when engaging the recirculate mode, the fan speed will sometimes inexplicably switch repeatedly from high to very high.
