Speedometer

Cables and Controls

Vehicle Information: Model: 911 SC Coupe - Weissach Edition; Year: 1980; Body Type: Coupe; Total Mileage: 107K;

My old 85mph Speedometer is giving up the ghost, but very true to form. Odometer first and just recently on the way back from Sebring, the speedo portion stopped tracking mph. First dropping to 0 then picking up to a max of 35, then back down again. I read the answers to other questions and figured that the sensor wires were probably faulty. What happened next is what I am trying to figure out? I started the car in my garage and at idle or at about 2000 rpm's the speedometer will jump up to 60 mph and hold. When I turn the engine off the needle drops back down. I am going to replace the speedometer anyway but want to get things squared away before I buy a replacement. Also will a pre '77 speedometer work with my SC?Thanks,Wysoc3355
