Starter and Clutch for 1983

Vehicle Information: Year: 1983; Engine (size, modifications): 4.7; Total Mileage: 105,000;

Is there a trick to getting the starter engine out of a 928? It seems trapped against the front stabilizer bar. The mounting point on the starter is cracked off, bummer. The reason I'm fooling with the starter is that one day last week, the clutch wouldn't dissengage, we would not go into gear. After inspection, the release lever end was well into view in the inspection port. Clutch replacement? I know that the started doesn't have to come out but with a broken mounting point I wanted to take a closer look. After getting the clutch housing off I can see that the release lever is not attached to anything at the top. I can see the ball it should attach to but the release lever doesn't reach it. (more bummers?) I have the repair manuel on micro and a Chiltons. Are there any more pitfalls in the clutch removal and installation at this point? I haven't ordered any parts yet or removed the clutch assembly.
