starting problems

Model: 944 Turbo, Year:1986, Mileage:165000, Type of use:Street use only
I have a 1986 944 Turbo that runs extremely well but fairly often is difficult to start after a short trip. I typically drive the car on the weekend and one night a week. The first start (in the garage) has only been difficult one time. If I take a short drive (5 miles +-, 10-15 minutes) and turn the car off for a few minutes (while I'm in the store, etc.) quite often it is difficult to start when I return. Once it starts it runs very well, and I rarely have trouble after that regarless of the number or duration of stops. Sometimes a difficult start entails 2 or 3 cranks, sometimes it takes 10 or 15. This happens in warm and cold weather. I typically crank the engine for no more than 7 or 8 seconds. It does not "try" to start while this is going on, it either starts or does not. This problem started 1 1/2 or 2 years ago, and may happen regularly or go away for a month or more. Thanks for your help,Brian
