Steering Issues

Suspension and Steering

Vehicle Information: Model: 1987; Year: 1984; Body Type: Convertible; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 89000;

I am a new porsche owner and have little experience with the 911 handling. The car tends to get into a "groove" in the road sometimes and tracks along some invisible line. Sometimes it is on the freeway and others on a roadway that seems to have some sort of track worn into it. I can pull quite hard so that the car is difficult to steer out of this groove. On the roads I travel regular, it happens in the same spot so I am ready for it. My other cars do not react in this way on these same roads. Overall, the steering seems to be very responsive with good tracking. It is just on certain roads that this happens. The tires are worn and need to be replaced soon. I plan to replace tires and have an alignment performed. Another porsche owner told me that this is "normal" for this car. I find it hard to believe that this is the case. Can you help "steer" me in the right direction in tracking down this problem.
