sticky release bearing

Model: 944 S2, Year:1991, Mileage:94K Km, Type of use:Street use only
My release bearing is a little noisy and does not slide smoothly on the guide tube. At one point the clutch was releasing but the bearing was hanging up on the tube and not returning with full travel. A trip from stop thru to 3rd gear at red line returned it to full travel but it still does not move freely - you can tell by the gear changes - often silky smooth but occasionally a bit notchy. I use the "slight pressure until it slips into gear" technique but I am concerned about unnecessary wear on the synchros. The disc measures 18MM so lots of meat left. Can the guide tube be lubricated in-situ or am I facing a tear down to replace this?
