Still no residual fuel pressure

Fuel System

Model: Carrera 3.0, Year:1977, Mileage:72000, Type of use:Street use only
Hi again,I replaced fuel pump, filter and accumulator. My initial problem was difficulty starting warm. With the test gauges I realized no residual pressure and very high system pressure. I did check the return line per your advise. No blockage. So I went ahead and replaced the fuel pump, filter and accumulator. The fuel pump was noisy and I suspected something. So with the new fuel pump my system pressure is right on the money but still no residual pressure. I took off the air cleaner and noticed fuel dripping from the fuel distributor (while running). That can't be good. Can this be what's causing my "popping and back firing" ?I'm seriously thinking about switching to carbs.
