stock vs M241 short shift option

Model: 911 SC, Year:1981, Mileage:98000, Type of use:Street use only
i bought what i believe to be an M241 shift assembly from an 86 911. however, when i compare the stock assembly from my 81 SC to the purchased unit, there is very little difference. the distance from the pivot pin to the end of the ball on the shift shaft is less than 1/4 inch. i notice from photos of "factory short shift" kits that this distance should be greater. also, i do not see the rounded tabs on the fork's upper side on the unit i purchased. 1. do the factory M241 installed units have the tabs? 2. would the aftermarket "factory short shift" kit appear so different from what i am presuming to be a M241 setup or should they look identical? 3. should i be measuring more than 3/16" difference in pin - ball dimension btwn SC stock and M241?THANK YOU in advance, sorry for so many questions.
