Stuck Rear Torsion Bars

Vehicle Information: Model: 356A; Year: 1959; Body Type: Coupe; Engine (type, size, modifications): 1500S; Total Mileage: 150,000;

I am renovating the suspension and replacing the rubber bushings. When I removed the rear torsion plate cover, the torsion bar has remained inside the rear axle locating plate and will not come out. I have soaked it in penetrating oil, tried to pry it off, and even designed and machined a clamp/puller and added heat. All to no avail. I am wondering if there is a special technique involved in separating the torsion bar from the outer spline.
