Thanks for response 2/18. Concerning your questions: the gear ratios are stock; engine was pretty warm when I first started out (I did still have the choke up - maybe halfway); I have not ever had the C/O checked - but remember this is more than 2500 miles after a complete rebuild, so it ran fine for a long time. Latest information: I opened the distributor cap to clean the points. That went okay. Is it possible to put too much of the special Bosch grease on the shaft ? Anyway, when I opened the cap, there was a lot of "dust" inside, apparently from the rotor. See attached picture. It looks like part of the rotor (near edge in photo) is rubbing on the contacts for the spark plug wires. And, it looks like part of the rotor (back edge in photo) has chipped / flaked off. Have you ever seen that before ? After thoroughly cleaning the cap, wire brushing all the contacts, etc. - the car would not start. The CD box did seem to be making a very high pitch whine (like a dog whistle; ear-piercing). Any thoughts ? Thanks.
