Torn inner and outer CV boots

Suspension

Vehicle Information: Year: 2001; Engine (type, size, modifications): 3.2; Total Mileage: 51000; Transmission: Manual;

I recently purchased a 01 Boxster S and discovered afterward that both the inner and outer CV boots were torn. The CV joints seem to be OK since they are not making any noise. I took it to the local dealer (newly opened or I would have taken it there before I bought it) and they want to replace both axles as I suspected based on posts in this forum. This will cost nearly $1700. I would like to take the axles out and let a local reputable axle shop clean and repack the CVs and put on new boots for less than $100. I would like to know what it takes to remove the axle. The six bolts on the transmission side look straight forward, but the outer part of the axles attachment is not as easy. Any help would be appreciated.
